Landfill Gas System Expansion

Champ Landfill has been hoping to get a drilling contractor in on Monday, September 16, 2019, for a landfill gas (LFG) system expansion at the facility. There was a delay with the drilling crew, and our material for the project was delayed until the middle/end of the week of the 16th. Given both of those events, we have to push the start of the LFG expansion until Monday, September 23, 2019 (a delay of one week).

The project is expected to last until the end of October 2019, and includes the installation of 34 new LFG wells. Many of these will be dedicated to extending existing LFG wells in the North Pit, which should provide the largest opportunity for the reduction of fugitive emissions/odors.

The “extension” wells of the North Pit will be drilled first to aid in site-wide odor control. Other permitted wells and South Pit migration wells will be drilled later in the project. Very little trenching should have to take place, which should cut down on odors caused directly by construction.

The News section of the Champs Landfill is designed to keep customers and neighboring communities up-to-date about ongoing and future activities at the landfill.

For example, as the Champ Landfill invests in improvements like the installation of new landfill gas extraction wells, we may anticipate a condition at the landfill that may cause temporary odors.

At these times, we will issue an appropriate and timely notice that includes information about the cause, the anticipated length, and what actions we are taking to address the odors.
